SERVICES - WHAT SETS ME APART
You're probably wondering what makes me the best vet for your pet, right?
Below are 3 main reasons that explain why I would love to earn your trust so I can care for your pet.
LOW STRESS PET HANDLING
Your fur baby is scared! I understand how they will communicate the subtlest signs of fear, and have plenty of distraction techniques to get the information I need to diagnose their problems with the least amount of stress.
TAILORED MEDICAL PLAN
Everyone’s budget is different. I am understanding that although there is a textbook best way to reach an answer, sometimes that's not financially possible. I have a great deal of experience providing the best for your pet with the resources available and will present multiple options.
HUMAN & ANIMAL BOND
I admire, value, and appreciate the human - pet bond! Your furry creature is your best friend, your life line, or your child’s security blanket. I understand and respect those connections. I know how that feels and will do everything I can to support you and your pet through all stages of its life.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
My understanding and love of animals started long ago. I recall reading every book in the animal section of the local library in third grade. Growing up in the Air Force, I moved every 3 years to a new base in a new part of the world where my pets were constant friends along my journeys. Although I have always loved animals, I honestly can’t say I always wanted to be a vet. I went to A&M University to study genetics/biochemistry and the turning point happened while in the laboratory where I suddenly realized the day to day life of a researcher is rather boring. After looking at every other profession to figure out my path in life, I volunteered at my local vet clinic and realized my true calling since I loved it! Bringing the solutions to the animals’ ailments, understanding to their owners, and finding the best way to do it all in a challenging atmosphere was exhilarating. During this time my family pet, Duke, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I saw my Colonel father cry for the first time in my life and realized the immense depth of the human–animal bond.
I graduated from A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics with honors (cum laude) 1997. I then graduated from A&M Veterinary College again with honors (cum laude) in 2001. During my time in vet school, I emphasized behavior medicine and the human–animal bond. After graduation, I worked in many different types of clinics, which has given me a rich background to pull from to properly care for my patients. From very progressive to bare bones, education settings to relief work, a few years in local shelters, and recently being the only practitioner at a thriving clinic for over 12 years, I have finally found a new home at South Belt Animal Hospital. Again, it is my love of animal behavior that sets me apart as a veterinarian. I will use distraction and low restraint techniques to minimize the stress on your pet. You can trust that I always have your pet’s best interest in mind. My approachable and “down to earth” demeanor will keep your stress minimal too.
I have the sweetest pitbull ever and a three legged cat. Me and my spouse, Ryan, love immersing ourselves in the diversity of Houston and all it has to offer. Our daughter attends Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute studying biomedical engineering.
